I’m sure you’ve heard of a hit song titled “Don’t Worry, Be Happy,” by Bobby McFerrin or “Happy” by Pharrell Williams. These songs have a very catchy way of conveying it’s message of being happy to everyone. Bobby McFerrin’s message also told a lot of people not to worry.

Living a happy and optimistic life is not only the best way to live but it’s also great for your health. Being happy actually protects your body and mind from many things, which includes stresses of life.

Did you know that stress is linked to being one of the top causes of death? It can give you heart disease, cancer and stroke.

One of the best sayings I’ve ever read was by a Greek philosopher, Heraclitus, he was quoted as saying: “The only thing in life that will always remain the same is change” or “The only thing that is constant is change”.  In everyone’s life there will always be change in one way or another. In our lives we are powerful. Everyone, yes this includes you, has super powers. You have the power to make any necessary changes you want to make. Even if you find yourself in an unbearable situation, you can always find solace in the knowledge that it too will change.

We are all different. We are all unique but we all hold super powers of our own. You must accept others for who or what they are, avoid arguments and clashes, let go of resentments.

If you ever find yourself in an argument that seems unavoidable, look for ways to understand the situation and let it go. You may even have to put yourself in the other person’s shoes, be understanding, find a common ground, figure it out.

Everyone has happiness in them. Increasing it makes life way more wonderful and healthier.

Being happy is easy, you just have to decide that being happy is what you want to be.

Everyone has that power, no matter what they are going through.

You have the choice to be happy or stressed. You have the choice on whether you want to feel relaxed or troubled. You choose how bright or dull your outlook is. It’s simple, if you really think about it – choose to be happy.

There are plenty of ways you can do this.

Be Grateful

Have a good attitude. Be grateful. There is so much to be thankful for. Write it down. Some people have a grateful journal, where they write down what they are grateful for every day or every week.

If you think there’s nothing in your life that you can be grateful for, think again and keep thinking until you find it. Everyone has something to be thankful for.

Be thankful that you’re alive. Be thankful for having food to eat, a family to come home to, having a home, a roof above your head, there’s simply so much for you to be thankful for, write it down.

I’ve recently started keeping a bullet journal where I write down what I am grateful for on a daily basis.

Stop Watching The News

Some people can’t seem to start their day without watching the news. Is this you?

News can cause so much stress and unhappiness, watch less of it.

I mean think about it – 99% of the news you watch, read or hear about is bad news. Starting the day with bad news doesn’t seem to be a smart thing to do. Wouldn’t you agree?

Manage Your Time

Time is irreplaceable and way to valuable to waste.

If you don’t know how to manage your time, start learning. It’s just beneficial to your happiness and important to your success.

Learn how to schedule, set goals, plan, create to do lists and prioritize. These are the core basics of time management that you should seek to understand, then develop. These skills can be fine tuned later on down the road, but for now you should seek to develop the basic skills of time management and be patient, it takes time to get use to doing this if you’re not use to it like I was. But once you get use to it and start to see how it’s helping you achieve your goals, one at a time, you will start creating your own time management skills and instilling them into your life.

Working hard will bring you personal satisfaction. Finishing tasks will give you a feeling of being competent. Accomplishing your goals, no matter how small, will give you a sense of value. Work on things that are worthy of your time.

Know How To Laugh

Laugh every day. Heard a good joke? Share it with your family or friends, make others laugh too.

There are so many benefits for laughing. Laughter actually relaxes your muscles and lowers your stress levels, amongst so many other benefits. Just check out this great article I found online, titled “Laughter is the Best Medicine,” it talks about the benefits of laughter and even provides you with suggestions on how to create opportunities to laugh for those days that you can’t find something to laugh about.

Express Your Feelings

Always let the people you love know that you love them. How? By simply saying, “I love you.”

Show those that you love how much you care by doing little things such as saying, “I’m proud of you,” “You made my day,” “I’ll always be here for you,” giving someone a simple compliment or thanking them for something are just some ways you can show someone that you care.

Expressing your feelings will not only make the other person feel good but will also make you feel good. Plus, hearing others say that they love and care for you too is a great feeling to have and in turn causes happiness within you.

Avoid Negativity

Avoid your exposure to negative things and people. Stay away from negativity at all costs. Avoid elements such as noises, toxins, and hazardous places.

Avoiding negativity will allow you to keep your “happy” safe. Just like I said earlier, practice gratitude every day. Let go of things that do not serve you, leave the past in the past, learn from mistakes and/or failures – not only from yourself but from others as well.

Learn

Learn something new every single day. Learning can bring about an extra piece of happiness. The more knowledge you gain, the more you grow. There are many benefits to learning besides providing you with an extra piece of happiness. It increases your self confidence and strengthens your mind. Keep growing and don’t stop.

These are a few simple things you can do every day to be happy.

Remember this:

“Most people are about as happy as they make up their minds to be” ~ quote from Abraham Lincoln.
